Meet the 2026–27 MWP Emerging Women Journalists Fellowship Cohort

Meet the new generation of migrant and racialised women joining the MWP Fellowship to develop their journalism, tell important stories and build connections across the media industry.

We are delighted to introduce the 2026–27 cohort of the MWP Emerging Women Journalists Fellowship.

This year, we welcome a new group of emerging journalists from migrant and racialised backgrounds, each bringing their own experiences, perspectives, interests and ambitions to the programme.

Over the coming months, the fellows will take part in an intensive programme of journalism training, mentoring, editorial development, professional networking and industry experience. Each fellow will also develop an original feature story with the support of an experienced mentor and the MWP editorial team, culminating in publication online and in our special print magazine.

At the heart of the Fellowship is our commitment to creating pathways into journalism and media for women whose voices and perspectives continue to be underrepresented in the industry.

Meet our 2026–27 Fellows

More than a Fellowship

One of our ambitions for the Fellowship is to create something that lasts beyond each cohort: a growing network of women supporting other women in journalism and media.

We are already beginning to see this happen.

Women who have previously volunteered with MWP are now taking on paid roles within the programme, while fellows from our previous cohort are returning to help create opportunities for the women coming after them.

This progression is an important part of what we want to build. Our hope is that, in the future, more of our fellows will return as mentors, editors, trainers, collaborators and leaders, creating a sustainable network of women who share opportunities, knowledge and support.

A programme built through collaboration

The Fellowship is only possible because of the organisations, partners and individuals who believe in our work.

We are grateful for the financial support of The National Lottery, Edge Fund and Funderbirds, as well as the individuals who have supported MWP and helped us continue creating opportunities for migrant and racialised women.

This year, we are proud to collaborate with the Glasgow University Media Group, including Dr Hayes Mabweazara and Professor Catherine Happer, as well as Dr Fiona McKay from the University of Strathclyde and Meggie Anderson from Robert Gordon University. We also thank the University of Stirling for helping us share the Fellowship opportunity with students.

Our training programme brings together expertise from across journalism, media and the women’s sector, with contributions from Our Version Media, Media Education, The Ferret, Zero Tolerance Scotland, Trauma Work, alongside our university collaborators.

We are equally grateful to the journalists and media professionals who have joined us as mentors, providing one-to-one guidance and encouragement to our fellows as they develop their stories and navigate the next stages of their careers.

What comes next

The fellows are now beginning their mentoring, training and reporting journeys, and over the coming months we will be sharing more about them, their experiences and the journalism they produce.

Their original stories will be published by Migrant Women Press in 2027 and brought together in a special print edition celebrating this year’s cohort.

Welcome to the MWP community, Class of 2026–27. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.

Follow Migrant Women Press over the coming months to meet the fellows and discover their stories.
